Thayra was born and raised on the west coast of Africa in Guinea-Bissau. Her journey as a designer is deeply influenced by her origins and the diverse cultures she has encountered throughout her life. In 2013, she relocated permanently to Europe, where she began her pursuit of a career blending creativity, craftsmanship, and exploration.

She studied Design in Lisbon, specializing in Industrial Design. Her professional journey began while she was still a student, joining creative teams and contributing to innovative projects in design studios across Portugal.

In 2021, she moved to Berlin, a city known for its creative energy, where she lived for two years. During this time, Thayra worked across Berlin, Brussels, and Amsterdam, developing products and consulting for startups, with a particular focus on materials for new designs.

Her design philosophy is a reflection of her roots, the cultures she admires, and the cities she has lived in or visited. Architecture, colors, and people from these experiences serve as a constant source of inspiration in her work.

For Thayra, materials are more than just functional—they give a piece its personality and soul, revealing a unique identity. Her passion for materials drives her focus on creating designs that are timeless and enduring. By selecting materials and crafting designs that are easy to maintain and preserve, her work is built to stand the test of time.

This vision is exemplified in her first commercial collection, DJUNTU, launched in June 2024 at 3Days of Design in Copenhagen.

Based in Lisbon, her company works exclusively with local workshops, ensuring a human and sustainable approach to production.
