Painted in earthy tones like moss green, off-white, and blush by Farrow & Ball, this house exudes a picturesque, calming spirit. Between the hustle of the fashion world and Aurora James nonprofit organization, Fifteen Percent Pledge.
Founded in 2020, Fifteen Percent Pledge challenges major retailers to allocate 15% of their products to Black-owned brands. So far, giants like Nordstrom, Sephora, and Rent the Runway have joined the initiative, solidifying Aurora as a transformative force both in and out of the fashion world.
Make no mistake—her home is more than just a place to relax. Aurora, who has spent up to 60 to 80 hours a week working, found in interior design a creative outlet—and perhaps a form of therapy.
Over the past four years, Aurora has poured herself into every detail of her renovation. Her passion for sourcing unique pieces led her to create spaces like a serene sanctuary, complete with Isamu Noguchi light sculptures and furniture by Sarah Ellison. The result? A calming vibe that replaced her former home Pilates studio.
But like every masterpiece, her home didn’t come together overnight. It was a gradual process, starting with the basics and layering on personality over time. Today, every corner of the space tells a story about who she is: a multifaceted woman deeply connected to her roots and her aspirations.
Solange’s home is a true gallery of art and personal expression. With white walls serving as a blank canvas, she carefully selected objects and furniture that tell stories and exude authenticity. Among the highlights are custom-designed furniture pieces, artwork celebrating Black history, and items that seamlessly blend functionality and beauty.
One of Solange’s proudest achievements is her collection of furniture designed for her Saint Heron project. A standout piece? A modular sofa that combines bold design with durable materials like velvet, proving that style and practicality can go hand in hand.
Her collection of works by Black women artists is another deeply meaningful aspect of her home, paying homage to her mother’s influence. Featuring names like Robert Pruitt and Elliott Jerome Brown Jr., these pieces spark important conversations and celebrate the richness of Black culture.
More than just a stylish residence, Solange’s home is a manifesto. It’s a space that defies stereotypes, fosters meaningful dialogue, and proudly celebrates Black culture with sophistication and pride. Every detail reflects her worldview, her love for art, and her commitment to creating an inclusive and inspiring environment.
