Meet NU, an Assimply Studio serie that celebrates the raw essence of materials, letting them speak for themselves in both their natural and processed forms. Stripped of any cover, each piece highlights the contrast and interaction between elements, creating a provocative yet cool aesthetic. Think of it as a glimpse into a hot scale of objects that redefine the value of everyday materials, turning what was once waste into artful, functional design.
In Danish, “nu” translates to “now,” and this simple concept fuels the collection’s ethos. Every element tells a story of transformation. Ceramics that were once bricks have become dust. Glass that was once a vase is now a shard. Marble that was once a worktop is now scrap. Aluminum that once held a pot has melted, solidified, and been reborn.
By incorporating recycled and waste materials, NU creates furniture and objects designed for the needs of the present. In a world increasingly aware of environmental impact, Victor Huggo Xavier and Søren Hallberg believe that reuse in design is urgent, necessary, and beautiful. Despite the abundance of these resources across Brazil, they remain underestimated and undervalued.
Inside their 120 m² workshop in Gamboa, the heart of Rio, Victor and Søren keep their eyes fixed on the richness of Brazilian culture, landscapes, and materials. Their dedication gives birth to objects and furniture that are not only sustainable but highly desirable in the design market.
What makes NU unique is its ability to combine experimental design with sustainability and Brazilian identity. Every chair, table, and object carries the story of its past life, connecting the user with the journey of the materials. By highlighting textures, imperfections, and contrasts, the collection provokes curiosity while remaining functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Victor and Søren’s vision challenges conventional design norms, encouraging both designers and consumers to rethink what “waste” really means. By transforming discarded materials into high-value design pieces, NU sets a standard for ecological responsibility in contemporary Brazilian design. Their work proves that sustainability and sophistication are not mutually exclusive they can coexist beautifully, creating objects that are not only eco-conscious but also culturally resonant and visually striking.
NU serie is a philosophy of presence, materiality, and creativity. In every piece, the story of transformation is tangible, reminding us that the “now” is the perfect moment to act responsibly and creatively. With that we can say that Victor Huggo Xavier and Søren Hallberg are shaping the future of furniture and objects, proving that in design, the present moment, or better the “NU” is the most important canvas.
